Dr Arooj Akram is a health psychologist who works with individual adults (age 16+) and couples with a wide range of concerns including: anxiety; depression/low mood; stress; abuse; ADHD; anger/aggression; assertiveness; autism spectrum disorder; bereavement/grief; bipolar disorders; body image; borderline personality disorder; bullying; chronic illness; disordered eating; dreaming; exam stress; gender/sexual identity; health anxiety; insomnia; life transitions; loneliness; low self-esteem; mindfulness; neglect; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); pain management/chronic pain; panic; phobias; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); relationship concerns; relaxation; thought process issues (such as rumination, worry, perfectionism, need for control, intrusive thoughts); trauma; and many more issues.
She has a special interest in working with people from ethnic minority communities, women's health, behavioural change, and promoting wellbeing through sustainable lifestyle changes, including physical activity and exercise.

Her approach is grounded in the principles of holistic care.
In addition to therapy and coaching, Arooj offers supervision for fellow practitioners on a one-to-one basis.
Arooj is fluent in Punjabi and Urdu and she is happy to work with clients who feel more comfortable speaking in these languages. She is passionate about reducing cultural barriers to psychological support.
Arooj has a professional doctorate in Health Psychology and a BSc (hons) in Applied Psychology. In addition she has a BA(hons) in Business Information Management. All qualifications are from Glasgow Caledonian University.
Arooj is a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and she is listed on the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS).

Arooj has held many roles supporting the mental health of people in a range of organisations.
