Catherine's way of working
Catherine uses a range of evidence-based approaches and techniques in her therapy work including: cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic and person-centred counselling. She works in a flexible and collaborative way with clients, putting each client at the centre of what she does and tailoring her approach to meet their individual needs and preferences. Catherine believes a strong therapeutic relationship is important in successful therapy and she will work to build this relationship during sessions. Catherine offers time-limited sessions that are focused and goal oriented, or longer-term psychotherapy during which more complex issues can be explored.Catherine's background and experience
Catherine has worked in a number of different settings including in the voluntary sector with Cruse Bereavement Care and Crossreach - working with trauma, addiction and mental health issues - and in private practice.In addition to her work with First Psychology, Catherine works as a groupwork co-ordinator and recovery worker/coach. In this role, she works on a one-to-one basis to support clients in their recovery from substance misuse. She also has experience of facilitating and co-facilitating group sessions.
Catherine has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychodynamic and Person-Centred Therapies and a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural and Group Therapy. She is a member of BABCP (the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies), COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland), and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
