Catherine's way of working
Catherine is an empathetic and non-judgemental practitioner who believes in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship with each client so they feel safe to explore their issues and work towards change. She takes a collaborative approach to her counselling/psychotherapy work and integrates elements from a number of different therapies/approaches to meet the unique needs and preferences of each person. These may include person-centred, relational and psychodynamic approaches. She may also make use of creative media or play-based techniques when working with children and young people where she feels these may be helpful.Catherine is fluent in Arabic and is happy to work with clients who feel more comfortable speaking in this language.
Catherine's background and training
Catherine has worked as a child psychotherapist in a number of primary and secondary schools where she supported young people aged 4-18. In addition, she has provided therapy services within a university setting.Catherine has an MSc in Children and Adolescent Mental Health and Psychological Practice from the University of Edinburgh; Diplomas in Child Psychotherapy (UKCP accredited), Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP accredited), and Adult Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP accredited) - all from the Northern Guild; and a BA (hons) in Psychology from Lebanese American University.
Catherine is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
