Denise Keanie is an experienced psychological therapist who works with individual adults across a wide range of concerns, including: anxiety; low mood/depression; stress; abuse; anger/aggression; assertiveness; Autism Spectrum Disorder; Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); bereavement/grief; chronic illness; eating and body image issues; life transitions; healthy anxiety; loneliness; mindfulness; neglect; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); self-harm; trauma and many more issues.

Denise has a particular interest in supporting clients who struggle with emotional dysregulation and self-management, as well as workplace stress and medically unexplained illness. 

Denise also offers supervision for fellow practitioners on a one-to-one basis.

Denise is an empathetic and encouraging practitioner who is passionate about motivating people to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. Working from a person-centred perspective, her therapeutic approach is highly collaborative as she believes this brings the best results.

Denise strives to provide the highest quality of care and draws on a range of elements from different styles to best suit each client's individual needs and preferences. These can include Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy (ScT) and DBT-Informed Therapy, among others.
 

Denise's background and training

Denise has extensive experience in supporting roles. She has previously worked as an occupational therapist with people who suffered head injuries and neurological illnesses, and has over fifteen years of experience in the field of mental health services. She has experience in senior leadership roles within a specialist personality disorder service, providing clinical guidance and treatment recommendations, and is an active member of the Scottish Personality Disorder Network.

Denise holds a BSc in Occupational Therapy from Robert Gordon University Aberdeen. She has also completed a range of further training courses, including accredited training in Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing from EMDR Europe and a certificate in Schema Therapy awarded by the International Society of Schema Therapy.

Denise is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
