Kim has more than 10 years' experience of working with people who have been impacted by domestic abuse in its many forms: physical, emotional, financial and sexual. As a result of this she is particularly experienced in working with complex trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, and self-harm.
Kim's way of working
Kim is a warm, empathetic and non-judgemental therapist who takes a person-centred and collaborative approach to her counselling/psychotherapy work with clients. She aims to provide a confidential space in which people can feel supported as they explore their issues and find ways to move forward in their lives. Kim appreciates that counselling can be daunting and she aims to build a warm and trusting connection with each person, which she believes is key to the counselling process. When working with young people, Kim uses a variety of play therapy and creative skills to allow space in which they can express themselves fully and help her understand their experiences.Kim's background and training
Kim has experience working in a number of support roles in a range of different settings with people of varying ages and from a variety of backgrounds. She has worked for a project providing 1-1 support for individuals and families to help them come to terms with health issues. She has also developed services to support vulnerable families, and she has worked for a women's aid charity providing therapeutic support to children, carrying out preventative training in schools, and managing a team of outreach workers.Kim has a Certificate in Children and Young Person's Counselling and a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy from Perth College. In addition, she has a BA in Professional Development and a Diploma in Community Education.
Kim is an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
