Dr C. Leandro Tolmos is a senior counselling psychologist who works online with individual adults with a wide range of issues and problems including: anxiety; depression/low mood; stress; abuse and neglect; anger/aggression; assertiveness; autism spectrum disorder; bereavement/grief; eating and body image; gender and sexual identity; life transitions; loneliness; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); relationship concerns; relaxation; self-harm; trauma; and many more issues. 

Leandro has particular experience working with adults navigating migrations and/or life transitions that may evoke feelings of isolation, loneliness, existential challenges or identity concerns. 

Leandro also offers supervision for fellow practitioners on a one-to-one basis.
 

Leandro's way of working

Leandro’s therapeutic approach is grounded in a collaborative approach to psychotherapy, inviting clients to take an active role in their process. He works predominantly from a psychodynamic orientation and fosters a strong therapeutic relationship, offering a warm and safe space to explore difficult experiences.

Leandro offers a psychological consultation (usually two appointments) before therapy begins, which helps him think together with clients about their specific needs and expectations for therapy. He is curious about how early experiences and relational patterns shape your present life, and he works with you to better understand them.

Leandro is fluent in Spanish and is happy to work with clients who feel more comfortable speaking in this language.
 

Leandro's background and training

Leandro has worked for over ten years with a diverse range of clients. He initially trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Peru before relocating to Edinburgh. He has extensive experience across a variety of settings, including academic roles working as an adult psychotherapist in the NHS, private practice, and serving as a clinical lead for a psychotherapy service in Peru.

He holds a Clinical Psychology degree (UPC, Peru), a Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy and a PhD in Health and Social Sciences both from The University of Edinburgh.

Leandro is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and he is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). 

 

Leandro's fee
