Marie McDonald is an experienced CBT therapist who works online with individual adults with a wide range of issues and problems including: anxiety; bereavement/grief; depression; stress; anger; assertiveness; depression / low mood; eating and body image issues; life transitions; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); relationship issues; relaxation; self-harm; and many more issues.

Marie has particular experience working with people with anxiety and depression. 
 

Marie's way of working

Marie's main therapeutic approach uses cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and DBT-informed therapy and she also incorporates elements from various other approaches including schema therapy, transactional analysis and person-centred therapy to meets and preferences of each individual. 
 

Marie's background and training

Marie has eight years' experience working with clients as a CBT therapist in a number of settings including in a university setting, for a charity, and in private practice. 

Marie has a SCOTACS Diploma in Counselling and Group Work (A Cognitive Behavioural Approach); a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills; a Diploma in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy from the Centre of Excellence; and a Diploma in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. She has also completed additional training in a number of areas including: ACT for Worrying, Ruminating and Obsessing, and a course in Transactional Analysis.

Marie is an accredited member of both the British Association of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA).​​​​​​​
